Our Story

In 1965, Betty Nagamoto Honma was enrolled at the University of Hawaii in the teaching program. Betty recalls, “At that time, girls were expected to become nurses, teachers, or secretaries. After two years, I just decided that it wasn't for me.” Following a chance meeting with a food broker, she applied for a $250 loan and Wholesale Unlimited Inc. was born.

Betty began by selling beef jerky wholesale to local bars and markets out of the trunk of her car. The first Wholesale Unlimited location was on School Street in Nuuanu, but she soon outgrew that and moved to the industrial area of Mapunapuna. In order to sell retail as well as wholesale, Betty moved Wholesale Unlimited to a larger space in Mapunapuna, where the business thrived.

From those humble beginnings, Wholesale Unlimited has grown to carry over four hundred items, selling wholesale, retail and online. Betty even created her own line of cookies, Betty's Best, which remain one of Wholesale Unlimited's top sellers. There are now 23 varieties of cookies to choose from.

Betty credits her success to treating her customers with genuine Aloha. “We just try to give people the best quality snacks for a reasonable price and good service. If I don't believe in the quality, I wouldn't want to put my name on it."

Betty's family has carried on the Wholesale Unlimited tradition. 23 years ago, Betty's younger son opened a chain of retail only stores called Wholesale Unlimited Express. There are now six Express stores throughout Oahu as well as the store and warehouse now located in Waipahu .
